Bad enough that wind shear could wreak terrible havoc with the airfoil shape, if not tear hell out of the material itself. But a sudden downdraft kills all your lift entirely, and you drop like a stone.
Solid wing, either fixed or rotary, or nothing. At least until the jet pack evolves, or anti-gravity is developed.
