I was in a gun shop yester and was looking at two of these. The stainless steal model was $529 and the blued was $489. I don't really "need" one, but it would fit nicely in the truck.
It removes the action thereby reducing the overall length/weight of the gun. Great for self defense indoors where the swing radius is significantly smaller indoors. also short enough to swing around in a vehicle. It comes with a 20" barrel means I can make it 2" shorter by cutting to the 18" legal minimum. You don't have to pump it and you got two shots Or one big kaboom.
All the stuff Outlaw said plus for whatever reason a side by side shotgun carries a big psychological fear factor. If that comes from movies/media or the chance of getting hit by two loads at the same time I can't say. I like the idea of having one as a "behind the door" gun or as a "under the seat gun" in a truck.
Ok. I see it as two shots and then fumble in your pockets for shells in a slow and awkward loading procedure versus having 5 or more shells in a pump gun. Semiautos are pretty reliable nowadays too.
I don't know how many times you need that many, but it is reassuring to know they are there. Also, if you get up in the middle of the night you won't be wearing a coat with a bunch of shells in it.
As for the fear factor, if the sight of the gaping maw of a pump shotgun pointed your way isn't enough, then perhaps you aren't smart enough for life on this planet anyway.
You could also shorten a pump, but obviously not as much.
They are kinda cool, though, so I wouldn't mind having one for that reason.

ReplyDeleteWhat does it offer that a pump doesn't?

You can get a Mossberg and a Winchester in 18in pump configurations. What you are saying about the pump being a better tactical weapon is correct.
ReplyDeleteI agree they are cool. I'm not sure they are $500 cool. I paid $89 for my Mossberg 500 brand new.
