If this is true, then what?
"INDIAN OCEAN (INTELLIHUB) — According to freelance journalist Jim Stone, one of the American passengers, Phillip Wood, a technical storage executive at IBM, who was aboard the now missing Malaysian Airlines flight, keystered his iPhone 5 in his anus after the Boeing 777 carrying 239 people was hijacked by military personnel while on route to China.
Amazingly, Stone claims that metadata within the photo yields evidence confirming “100 percent” that Phillip Wood sent the photo, along with a brief voice activated text, from GPS coordinates which put Wood only a few miles away from the U.S. controlled Diego Garcia military base which is located on an island south of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean."

Interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt must be a fake. The Obama administration would never lie to us.

ReplyDeleteNot buying it, if this is their main evidence. Despite the claims to the contrary of how difficult it is to hack an exif file, it is actually supremely easy. Less than one minute of searching found the details of the exif file format. And I can write a simple streaming file editor in about five minutes that will read in the original file (taken anywhere in the world), replace the lat/long coordinates with those of Diego, and write out the fake file so that it would appear to have come from Diego. None of the details relating to photo editing software will be changed, so it will appear to be original.
Nor am I a particularly gifted hacker. Any freshman CS student could do the same thing with any kind of file, given the proper record structure. The only possible stumbling block is if there is an embedded checksum -- and then it's only a matter of including an appropriate algorithm to regenerate it.
One minor note about Diego Garcia: the linked article says "secret U.S. military base leased from the EU"
- It is not secret. You can even look at it in Google maps (link) and read about the military installations there on Wikipedia (link). Other than guessing at what else goes on that isn't elsewhere described -- a condition that would thus apply to all other US military installations -- there isn't much "secret" about it.
- Not leased from the EU. It is totally "owned" by the British government, and parts of it are leased to the US (while the British maintain control over the island proper).
So, fish food?
